Hi friends, UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) Civil Services Examination (CSE) Preliminary Exam consists of two papers: General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II (Civil Services Aptitude Test or CSAT). The UPSC CSE Prelims exam serves as a screening test and the marks obtained in this stage are not counted in the final merit list. GS Paper I consists of 100 questions each of 2 marks which are to be solved in 2 hours and GS Paper II consists of 80 questions each of 2.5 marks which are also to be solved in two hours Both the papers have 1/3rd negative marking. Syllabus for UPSC CSE Preliminary Exam Paper I Or General Studies Paper-I:
This paper consists of 100 questions each of 2 marks having total weightage of 200 marks. The duration for GS paper I is 2 hours.
• Current events of national and international importance.
• History of India and Indian National Movement.
• Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the world.
• Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
• Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
• General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change (no need for subject specialization).
• General Science.
Syllabus for UPSC CSE Preliminary Exam Paper II Or General Studies Paper-II (CSAT):
This paper consists of 80 questions each of 2.5 marks having total weightage of 200 marks. The duration for GS paper II is 2 hours.
• Comprehension.
• Interpersonal skills, including communication skills.
• Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
• Decision-making and problem-solving.
• General mental ability.
• Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level).
• Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. – Class X level).
